A tragic shooting in Chicago has left an 18-year-old woman dead after she was shot while walking with friends near Loyola Beach in the Rogers Park neighborhood.
According to the Chicago Police Department, the incident occurred around 1:30 a.m. in the 1000 block of West Pratt Boulevard. Police say the victim was with a group when a male suspect approached on foot, pulled out a firearm, and opened fire in their direction.
The young woman was struck in the head and was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities confirmed that no other individuals were injured during the shooting.
Investigators believe the victim was not the intended target. The area is near Loyola University Chicago, whose officials have acknowledged the incident but have not released additional details.
The shooting remains under investigation as police work to identify and locate the suspect.
