A heartbreaking tragedy unfolded in Calhoun County, where a 28-year-old father and his 4-year-old son lost their lives after a fishing trip ended in disaster.
According to Texas Game Wardens, the incident occurred Tuesday night at Hog Bayou near Port Lavaca. Authorities say the young boy fell into the water, prompting his father to jump in in an attempt to save him. Tragically, neither resurfaced.
The situation came to light the following morning when maintenance crews from the Guadalupe-Blanco River Authority arrived at the boat ramp and discovered two children, ages 4 and 6, alone. The children told workers that their sibling had fallen into the water and their father had jumped in after him.
A large-scale search effort was launched involving multiple agencies, including the Texas Department of Public Safety and the Texas Division of Emergency Management. Search teams used aircraft equipped with thermal imaging and drones to scan the area.
Around 1 p.m., crews located and recovered the father’s body. Approximately 90 minutes later, the child was also found and recovered.
Additional support was provided by local authorities and organizations, including Hunter Hadley’s Quest, Inc., as they assisted both in the search and in supporting the grieving family.
Officials expressed their condolences, noting the devastating impact of the incident on the victims’ loved ones and the community.
