
The community in Muskingum County is mourning the tragic loss of Robert Yates, 53, of Cambridge, who was killed after being struck by a vehicle on Interstate 70 on Wednesday morning, March 18, 2026.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the incident occurred around 7 a.m. near mile marker 146 in Hopewell Township. Investigators say Yates was walking in the left lane of Interstate 70 when he was struck by an eastbound vehicle driven by a 42-year-old woman from Bremen.
Yates was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities closed the eastbound lanes of Interstate 70 for several hours as emergency crews responded and conducted their investigation.
Officials say the circumstances surrounding why Yates was in the roadway remain under investigation, and no additional details have been released at this time.
